Do you know what work setting is best for you?
One of the ways to be happy with your job is to work somewhere that makes you feel fulfilled, productive, and valued. Many people believe there are only two types of work settings—your job’s workspace or your home. However, there is another type of setting that rarely gets acknowledged and that is a coworking space.
For those who have the option to work at their job’s place of work, some people prefer it because they get to interact with their coworkers, which is essential because human interaction can help you learn more things and refocus. Being part of a team teaches you responsibility, and responsibility motivates you to complete your tasks because you know your actions matter.
There are quite a few benefits of working at your job’s place of work, but like every other decision in life, it has its downfalls. Others get discouraged because of the commute to and from work. You can’t predict how traffic or the weather will be. Also, your job’s place of work can detract from productivity, happiness, and fulfillment if there is any workplace drama. It all depends on the atmosphere the workers and the managers promote.
Have you ever thought about working from home? If you have, there are definitely a list of things you have to think about before making the big step. Working from home is all about working in the comfort of your own home and working when you want to work. Your home is the perfect work environment for you if you know how to keep yourself motivated and if you have enough self-discipline to get your job done.
Although working from home seems peaceful and productive, it comes with many distractions. Depending on where you live and who you live with, the distractions could range from your child crying to your favorite tv show coming on. The biggest distractions while you’re working from home are family obligations, frequent visits to the refrigerator, unnecessary phone calls, and working too much.
Yes, I know. Working too much sounds crazy, but when you are working from home, it’s harder to separate your working life from your personal life, and without realizing it you could end up working from the moment you wake up to the moment you sleep. For some, the main benefit of working from home is being able to work on your own, but it could also feel like a stifling solitary confinement.
There is another type of work environment that not many people know about, and that is coworking. Coworking is a business setting where individuals work independently or collaboratively in a shared space. A coworking setting is a hybrid of working in an office and working from home because you have the opportunity to work where ever and whenever you want. For instance, if you’re working from home and want to meet with a client but don’t want them to know where you live, you could meet with them in a quiet, resourceful, and professional space, such as greenCOW Coworking if you’re in or near the Downtown Hammond, Indiana area.
Coworking is great because you can network with other entrepreneurs, work in a professional setting without paying a lot of money, and you can attract potential clients and partners, all while working at a coworking space. Coworking has quite a few benefits that seem like they just can’t be passed up, but there are disadvantages that need to be considered carefully.
The lack of privacy is something coworkers should think about before considering working in a coworking environment. Some coworkers have their client’s personal information on hand or they might need to call a client to discuss confidential information. At greenCOW Coworking, we’ve worked to remedy this disadvantage by giving coworking members free access to a small conference room. That way, whenever you need to discuss something confidential, you can book the room for free and do so in the privacy of the conference room.
After learning the different types of work settings, are you sure you’re working at the right place? If you’re considering trying a coworking space or have questions about coworking, please feel free to come into greenCOW Coworking to take a tour and get all of your questions answered.
