Location, location, location.

In almost every business class I’ve taken, I’ve seen or heard this three-word mantra. As it turns out, greenCOW Coworking is in the perfect location to best help businesses in or near the Northwest Indiana area succeed.

Located in the heart of Downtown Hammond’s creative and business scene, greenCOW is next door to the Towle Theater and Paul Henry’s Art Gallery. The Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce and Stella V.ie Café are across the street. The HUB of Innovation, another great resource for Northwest Indiana businesses, is a few blocks away, and Purdue University Northwest-Hammond Campus as well as the Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center are only a few miles away.

If you’re a solopreneur, small business entrepreneur, freelancer, virtual worker, student, and/or instructor and you’re looking for a professional, inexpensive place to get work done, or network, or advance your skills and expand your business, greenCOW has already lifted the stress of location off your shoulders. By working and learning at a place already part of Downtown Hammond’s business and creative scene, you will inevitably make powerful connections that will lead to success.

On top of location, here’s how greenCOW can help your business succeed.

Business Training, Personal Development, and Community and Entertainment Classes

Every month, dozens of events happen at greenCOW Coworking. Some recurring favorites are greenCOW Business Speakers, Yoga with Sandra Tomera, Social Media for Business, Community Coffee, and Coworking Productivity Day, but there are many more events meant to improve you, your business, or the community. Some events are just for fun, a way to wind down and treat yourself for working so hard.

For many business owners, it’s absolutely vital to regularly take business training courses. The more you know about social media, personal branding, leading and speaking, etc., the more likely it is that your business will succeed. The problem is that often business training courses can be expensive, but if you’re a member of greenCOW, almost all the business training events are free and/or discounted.

Access to Other Entrepreneurs in the Community

One of the most amazing things about working in a coworking space like greenCOW is that you’re constantly in a room with entrepreneurs across many fields with varying levels of experience. At greenCOW, we have a resume writer and career guidance coach, a health coach and blogger, an interior designer, a copy editor, a hiking coach, a magazine publisher, a CPR coach, and multiple freelance writers. There is an immense amount of value inherent in sharing a room with so many different entrepreneurs; even if you only talk to the other entrepreneurs a few minutes a day every day that you come into the space, if the conversations are meaningful it’s likely that partnerships and great ideas will naturally occur, which will have a powerful impact on your business.

In another blog post titled “How Coworking Doubled My Business Network,” I go into more detail about how to best use your coworking membership at greenCOW to grow your network and collaborate.

Complimentary Coffee, Tea, Hot Cocoa, Snacks, Water and Access to a Kitchen

Many business owners work in cafes or libraries. For years, I had a select few favorite cafés that I cycled through every week, and for about five to eight hours for four to five days a week, I spent what added up to a terrifying amount of money by the end of the week on drinks and food without even realizing it. Because I’m the type of worker who likes a change of setting, I now work at many different places throughout the week—home, libraries, cafes, greenCOW, Purdue University Northwest, and sometimes even bars—but I limit work at cafes and bars to only two or three times a week for only a few hours instead of every day because it’s hard to justify spending $50-100 a week on food and drinks.

It’s especially hard to justify spending that much money on drinks that you can get included in your membership at greenCOW. Furthermore, it’s much healthier and saves a lot more money to store food in the refrigerator in greenCOW’s kitchen and prepare your own lunch or snacks, though greenCOW also provides complimentary fruit and granola bars. Freeing up money on beverages and food gives your business more money to use for advertising, training, or supplies, especially if you have a team.

Access to Small, Medium, and Large Conference Rooms

If you’re a greenCOW member—free range, associate, or premium—you get the small conference room for free and you get half off of the medium conference room and the large conference room. So if you and/or your team usually work in the open coworking space in the atrium, but you need a small private room to meet with clients, train people, or work on specific projects, you can easily schedule to use the small room for free through the website.

Let’s say you want to host a workshop or a big meeting and you need a bigger conference room. Just like with the small conference room, you can book the medium or conference room on the website and if you’re logged in, the website will automatically charge you for half the rate when you book the room online. Even better, all the attendees of your event will also get complimentary drinks and snacks.

All of these resources save your business valuable time and money. You schedule meetings and events at your own pace and as many months in advance as you want, though we at greenCOW will gladly assist you if you need help; your membership saves you money on booking rooms; and your team members and guests get complimentary drinks and snacks.

Virtual Mailbox

Some people prefer to work at home, at libraries, or at cafes. Maybe, like me, you’re always traveling and working, or perhaps you have a job that requires you to be on the move.

In situations like the ones above, it’s important (and comforting) to have a solid physical space where you can pick up your mail or a business address to keep clients separate from your personal life. greenCOW offers inexpensive virtual mailboxes, similar to PO Boxes, even if you don’t become a coworker and an address separate from your home address you can use when its necessary to list an address for your business on paperwork and forms. If you do become a coworker, you can get a mailbox for a discounted rate.

Office Equipment and Supplies

Even if all you need is basic office equipment and you’re trying to buy the most inexpensive supplies, office equipment is likely to cost hundreds of dollars between paper, pens, a printer, ink, filing cabinets, etc. Office equipment is a recurring cost that adds up, because you will always need to restock supplies, and equipment often deteriorates after 2-5 years.

greenCOW will save you hundreds of dollars in office equipment because you get access to office equipment and supplies as part of your membership at no extra cost.  When you’re working at greenCOW and you need to use a printer, for instance, that is included in your membership.

Green, Eco-Friendly Environment

Last, but certainly not least, greenCOW is a very green and eco-friendly environment. After all, green is part of the name, and that’s because every plant in greenCOW, and there are many, are real.

To explain why it’s so significant that greenCOW is eco-friendly, let me give you some statistics:

According to CIPHR.com, “A 2010 study by the new University of Technology, Sydney, found significant reductions in stress among workers when plants were introduced to their workspace. Results included a 37% fall in reported tension and anxiety; a 58% drop in depression or dejection; a 44% decrease in anger and hostility; and a 38% reduction in fatigue.” Even better, “Employees’ productivity jumps 15% when previously ‘lean’ work environments are filled with just a handful of houseplants, according to 2014 research by the University of Exeter.”

Basically, by being an eco-friendly, green coworking space, greenCOW will help you, your clients, and/or your team be more productive, less stressed, less anxious, and less tired, which helps your business succeed on one of the most fundamental levels—by helping you feel healthy and good so you have more positive energy to make sure your business succeeds.
